Let's first analyze why the lighter is blown out. We know that there are three elements to combustion, which are combustibles, combustibles (here oxygen), and reaching the ignition temperature. Press the button of the lighter, and gas will be sprayed out and mixed with oxygen. At the same time, the piezoelectric ceramic igniter releases an electric spark, causing the gas to reach the ignition temperature and be ignited. Because the temperature generated by gas combustion is higher than the ignition temperature of gas, gas can continue to burn without further ignition. The fact that the lighter is blown out is actually because the wind has lowered the temperature below the ignition temperature of the gas, and one of the three elements of combustion is missing, so it cannot continue to burn.

So the main function of windproof lighters is to maintain the temperature above the ignition temperature, which is mainly achieved through the special structure of windproof lighters. Let's analyze this small part from bottom to top.

The bottom of this component is a metal mesh, as shown in the following picture. It can serve two purposes: firstly, to allow gas to be sprayed out at high speed (imagine you block the faucet with your hand and get sprayed all over your face), and secondly, to disperse the gas and mix it thoroughly with the air.

Above the metal mesh, there are two holes on the side of the component, which are actually intake holes. According to Bernoulli's principle, when gas is sprayed at high speed, it will "suck" the surrounding air. And the air is sucked in through these two intake holes, fully mixed with the sprayed gas, and burned more thoroughly.

The top of the component is the combustion chamber, which is different from ordinary lighters where the flame is exposed to the outside. The flame of windproof lighters has a part inside the combustion chamber, which enhances the windproof ability.

Finally, there are several metal plates at the top of the combustion chamber that will be burned red during the combustion process. If the flame is blown out by the wind, the red hot metal sheet can provide high temperature and ignite the flame again.
